. Sandy Skoglund, Angels and Stranges (1991) ( Sandy Skoglund was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts where she studied art history at Smith College. She is known for her distinctive staged photography which uses saturated colors and handcrafted props. Angels and Strangers (1991 is a surreal and vibrant photograph. This artwork is a fusion of sculpture, performance, and photography. The photo consists of a surreal, Freudian, dream scene. In the image, we see human figures, two men and one woman, purple and pink squirrel-like animals, all covering a pink cottage-like house. These dreams are figures living amongst humans in a being's artificial environment. We can notice a lot of texture in the scene.The side exterior wall of the house is wood-like but painted in a soft punk hue. The stairs and outdoor part of the cottage have a snake skin texture to it but are also fully coated in pink. Skoglund uses bright, but diffused lighting that removes shadows and creates a theatrical or staged...
